Indigenous Culture

Getting to know today’s Indigenous People of the Amazon…

It is a sad fact that Western influence has nearly infected every culture of the world. There are many tribes in the Amazon who have only felt this influence a relatively short time, an in a relatively small way. There is still a chance for these people to retain their cultural wisdom and to use it in the integration of their modern realities. The Ayahuasca Foundation seeks to help indigenous communities benefit from the preservation of their culture through educational programs

Indigenous Directory
An eventual library of indigenous wisdom, the directory will provide members of each tribe access to their profile page, in order to add to it with stories and pictures, or audio and video files. The tribes would also be able to network with other tribes easily, to organize events or meetings. Visitors to the site would also be able to learn about these wise people and find out about how they can assist them.

Ayahuasca Apprentice Sponsorship Program
Several tribes in the Iquitos area never used ayahuasca, due to their original location in the Amazon, but now wish to learn. The Ayahuasca Foundation will sponsor an indigenous person to attend the one-year apprenticeship program offered on this website. This student will then bring the wisdom of ayahuasca and knowledge of plant spirit medicine back to his indigenous community to begin a new lineage of ayahuasca in the Amazon Rainforest.

Indigenous Culture Retreats
Spend a week with an indigenous tribe. Learn their history, their language, music, and dance, how they make their clothing and handicrafts, their weapons and musical instruments, and learn their philosophy of living in the hands of Mother Nature. This is an amazing opportunity to get to know the indigenous traditions of the Amazon first hand. Support the preservation of indigenous wisdom by directly assisting the indigenous peoples in person. It is truly an unforgettable experience.
In addition to the retreats, the Ayahuasca Foundation will be organizing an Indigenous Culture Seminar, where five different tribes from the Amazon Rainforest will lead workshops demonstrating various aspects of their culture. Learn about their histories, language, arts and crafts, food preparation and diet, songs and dances, special ceremonies, philosophies, and more.
